Artist Statement
Dance has always captured the essence of my soul through performance, creation, and exploration. We as dancers get to explore our limits of emotions, creativity, and artistry as we strive for excellence in the world of dance. Whether you are creating or performing, there is no better expression than dance. We can trace over lines already drawn or into the blank space left for artistry to fill.
Amongst creating a dance piece, we get to investigate our place within dance and bring a vision to life through our own connection. As choreographers we understand the need for exploration, shaping, and story through nuance, vision and vulnerability. Choreography allows the exploration of a message or story that is brought to life through performance.
No matter the platform, performance permits for a heightened version of its design. The journey of bringing a piece to life is an exploration in dance which holds importance in my idea of dance. It is a continual process of connection to one’s self through a piece as well as an ongoing conversation between the choreographer and dancer. Performance conveys the choreography’s intended vision to be brought to a heightened quality through performance.
In my eyes, dance is a way to embrace our differences and create diverse communities of inclusivity that empower all, a message I seek to bring to my dance performance and choreography. There is no greater power than using our ability to dance to express what words will not justify. Dance brings people together to celebrate the stories being told with our movement.
